Health Canada and drug maker Pfizer Canada have issued stronger
warnings about the smoking cessation medication Champix.
The move is in response to ongoing reports in Canada and abroad
that some people taking the drug have experienced serious
neuropsychiatric symptoms, including suicide-related events and
worsening of existing psychiatric disorders.
The new warning says people should stop taking Champix and see a
doctor immediately if they or their families or caregivers notice
they are experiencing neuropsychiatric symptoms or behaviours
that are not typical for that person.
